Fond of Gujarati Dhokla? Try this masaledar version of Dhokla that will satiate your taste buds and will also be light on the stomach. Dhokla is super easy to make and healthy at the same time, as it is steamed. You just need a handful of ingredients like gram flour, curd, fruit salt, tandoori masala, ginger paste, red chilli powder and salt. For the tempering, you need mustard seeds, curry leaves and oil. This lip-smacking snack will be ready in less than 10 minutes and won’t even require that much effort.

You can serve it at kitty parties, birthdays or even pair it up with your evening tea for a wholesome combo. If you are someone who loves mirch-masala then the tandoori flavours of the dhokla will do justice to your tastebuds. You can garnish the Tandoori Dhokla with coconut flakes, coriander leaves for better taste. Tandoori Dhokla tastes best with fried green chillies and tamarind chutney.

How to make Tandoori Dhokla

Step 1- Prepare the batter

Add besan, turmeric, ginger paste, curd, fruit salt, 1/2 tbsp tandoori masala, red chilli powder and salt as per taste. Add water as per need and mix well to prepare a thick and smooth batter.

Step 2 – Steam the dhokla

Grease a circular thali with some oil and pour the batter in it. Place it in a steamer, cover and steam for 10-12 minutes. Once done, take it out and let it cool down.

Step 3 – Prepare the tempering

Chop the Tandoori Dhokla in cubes and place them on a plate. Now for the tempering, heat oil in a pan, add curry leaves, mustard seeds and let them splutter for a minute or so. Pour this tempering on the Dhokla cubes. Lastly, sprinkle 1/2 tbsp tandoori masala on top.

Step 4 – Ready to be served

Serve the Tandoori Dhokla with fried green chillies, tamarind chutney or any other chutney of your choice.

  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon fruit salt
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 cup yoghurt (curd)
  • 1 tablespoon tandoori masala
  • 2 stalks curry leaves
  • salt as required
